The short answer
English has two main verb tenses, present and past. Combine them with helping words to show habits, ongoing actions, or future plans.
I'm meeting Sarah tonight, but my bus leaves at six.
Why it works: The present continuous shows an arranged personal plan for tonight.

You look at your calendar and need to tell your team about tomorrow. A present form can describe a fixed schedule or a booked plan.
Match clock time and verb forms
The problem: I thought every sentence about tomorrow must use will.
The calendar gives the day, but the verb form gives the speaker’s view. You can use present forms for tomorrow when a plan is fixed. Time and verb form do not always match.
Use the simple present for set schedules.
The bus departs at ten tonight.
Use be + -ing for a plan you booked.
I'm having lunch with Mark tomorrow.

Why it works: A timetable rule uses the simple form.

Why it works: A booked plan uses be + -ing.

Keep basic verbs after helping words
The problem: I said 'I didn't saw him' because I thought both words needed past endings.
In a past question or negative sentence, the helper did carries the past meaning. Your main verb stays plain. Change the helper only.

I didn't saw the manager this morning.Say: I didn't see the manager this morning.
The helper didn't already marks the past. Keep the main verb in its base form.

Choose between habits and actions now
The problem: I said 'I'm living here all my life' when describing my permanent home.
Ask whether the situation is lasting or temporary. A routine or lasting state takes the simple form. Use the continuous form for something happening now.
Use the simple form for long-term facts.
I live in London.
Use be + -ing for a short-term stay.
I'm staying in London this week.

Separate finished past from current life
The problem: I used the present perfect with a specific finished time like 'I have seen him yesterday'.
Check the time phrase at the end. A finished point such as yesterday takes the simple form. Use present perfect when the time stays open.

Two years ago is a finished time point. Finished time points take the simple past.

Remember this
Do not match verb forms directly to the clock. Check whether the action is a habit, a plan, or finished history.

Are tense and time the same thing in English?
No. Time is when something happens in the real world. Tense is part of the verb form. A present form can sometimes refer to tomorrow.
The train leaves tomorrow at eight.
I am meeting Jo on Friday.
Why can the present simple talk about the future?
English often uses the present simple for a fixed timetable or schedule, even when the event is in the future.
The shop opens at nine tomorrow.
Our flight lands at six on Monday.
When does the present continuous describe a future plan?
Use it when you present a personal plan as already arranged, often with a future time phrase.
I am seeing the dentist on Friday.
We are having lunch with Maya tomorrow.
Why do we say did not go instead of did not went?
Did already carries the past meaning. The main verb that follows stays in its base form. The same rule applies in questions with did.
I did not see the message.
Did Maya finish the report?
Can I use the present perfect with yesterday?
Usually no. Yesterday names a finished time, so use the past simple. Use present perfect when the time is not finished or not stated as a finished point.
I watched the film yesterday.
I have watched that film three times.
