Teaching English Qualifications
An English language teaching qualification is essential for teachers looking to make a career in teaching English. Two of the most widely known qualifications in this field are TESOL and CELTA. Teachers having these qualifications are highly sought after by English training institutes across the world.
TESOL (Teaching English to Speakers of Other Languages) International Association is the largest and an all inclusive organization focussed on English language teaching for speakers of other languages. It has more than five decades of expertise in teaching the language with the mission to advance professionalism in English language teaching.
It offers membership to teacher educator, student, educator, researcher, author, materials writer or curriculum developer who are in the domain of ESL/EFL. Based on the areas of professional interest, TESOL has special interest groups called Interest Sections for its members. Adult Education, Applied Linguistics, International Teaching Assistants and Intercultural Communication are a few among the 21 varied Interest Sections. Each one has an email discussion list, a discussion area, and a library in the TESOL Community. With this, it creates a common platform for a community of learners to share new ideas and experiences. It also offers numerous grants and awards to honour excellence in service to the field and research and to enable TESOL members to attend the Annual TESOL Convention and English Language Expo.
CELTA (Certificate in Teaching English to Speakers of Other Languages) is one of the widely taken up course by those entering the English Language teaching. The certificates are issued by University of Cambridge Local Examination Syndicate (UCLES), a part of University of Cambridge. Two courses named 'Learn English' and 'Teach English' are run by the organization. The qualification earned is internationally recognized, highly respected and is a benchmark of quality. The 'Teach English' course teaches the learners the principles of effective teaching, a range of practical skills for teaching to adult learners and valuable hands on experience.
It provides a wide range of exams and qualifications for teachers and learners. Apart from this, they also provide Cambridge English exams by CEFR (Common European Framework of Reference of Languages) level. It is a guideline to describe the achievements of learners of foreign languages. It has six levels from A1 for the basic learning to C2 for the very highest of ability.
